1. And then stop and listen to what is being said to you, and imagine, as hard as you can, that the world being described to you is your world, and work from there. Even if it’s not your world. Even if it’s not the world and the experiences of your wife/girlfriend/best friend/sister/etc. Don’t be the guy who says “this can’t be true, I would have noticed”, because people are telling you — loudly — that it is true. Work from the perspective of: this is not my experience, but it clearly is her experience, and her experience is just as valid for her as mine is for me. Too many times, women speak up to try to educate men, and men say “you must have misunderstood” or “you must be imagining things” or “that’s not possible”. She didn’t misunderstand. She’s not imagining things. It is possible. You just don’t see it, because you have the privilege of ignoring it if you want to. Failing to recognize it makes you That Guy.
